Art as a vessel to heal from traumatic experiences

During the panic and helplessness being felt by many during the COVID-19 pandemic, art can become a bonding and beautiful experience being clarity to a chaotic time. In this video,  award-winning photographer Eva Woolridge talk reflects on her pain, and the beauty that eventually emerged from it. For Eva, the pain and confusion was brought about because of a misdiagnosis of an ovarian cyst, but the use of art as a healing process in today’s pandemic is equally as powerful.

A set of evocative and beautifully composed photographs illustrates the point including “Peeled Paint” (2014), conveying her understanding of ego and spirituality, and “Embrace Your Essence” (2015), a series focused on young women’s journeys toward self-love.
